Parking and Road Closures

A map showing car parks in Newbury can be found here.

It would be worth avoiding car parks 21, 27 and 28 after about 1.30pm as Northcroft Lane becomes very busy after then and when the parade finishes, at about 3.00pm, many pedestrians will use this route to get to the fete. Once the parade is in progress there will be no access to Strawberry Hill and Northbrook Street will be closed, so you will not be able to drive into Northcroft Lane.

A good place to park is car park 10, the Market Street car park next to the council offices. This is large and is close to the parade route.  There is also a large (305 spaces) multi-story car park very close to the parade route (number 14 on this map) but note that you will need to park there before 2.00pm to avoid road closures during the parade.

A map showing the parade route and the location of the Fete and Funfair is here.

Please note that Pound Street (where the parade assembles) is closed from 12.30pm to 2.30pm and the Old Bath Road (where the parade finishes) is closed from 2.00pm to 3.15pm.  The parade route itself, from Bartholomew Street onwards, is closed from 2.00pm.

Note that there is a bollard system in operation in the town centre, with bollards close to car park 6 (the Kennet Centre) on Bartholomew Street and in Wharf Street.  These are used to ensure only authorised vehicles – buses and taxis – are able to access the pedestrianised area during most of the day.  Many cars have been seriously damaged as a result of ignoring the (many and obvious!) warning signs.
